The work of Gray’s School of Art Graduate John Boyd

 

This winter scene features houses near Glasgow North College where John Boyd worked in the late 80s.  The artist was born in Stonehaven, Kincardineshire in 1940. He studied at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen (1958 – 1962) where he was taught by Robert Henderson Blyth. . From 1967 – 1988 he taught at Glasgow School of Art before turning to painting full time.  His work is held in many private and public collections worldwide including the ubiquitous Flemings Collection in London. He is considered one of the important Scottish figurative painters of the late 20th century.  The late John Boyd’s paintings have received wide recognition and his work is held in many private and public collections.
