A Toast to Ewan’s 21st Century Quaich

IMG_4692-bEditBack in June 2014 students at Gray’s School of Art were feverishly working towards the completion of their Degree Shows.  There was lots to look forward to. One such student was Ewan Gray from Orkney.  Ewan became one of many successful winners of  RGU Purchase Awards.  His interest in computer aided design (CAD) and rapid prototyping inspired him to develop a modern process of making quaichs, the traditional Scottish whisky vessel which he adds a contemporary twist to.  His journey into design was no accident as he is the grandson of Malcolm Gray who was the founder of jewellery makers Ortak.  We are thrilled to now hold examples of Ewan’s work in the Robert Gordon University Collection and we hope that he and the other 2014 RGU Purchase Award winners will keep in touch with us in the future.
